Deserts

Deserts and xeric shrublands - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A desert is one of the 15 terrestrial Biomes.
Biomes are specific areas on our planet which are geographically and climatically similar.
Biomes are also called ecosystems.
Desert characteristics:
< 10 " annual rainful
arid climate
found in tropical, subtropical & temperate climate regions
limited plant life including grasslands, shrublands & woodlands (xerophytes)
limited animal life including insects, reptiles, arachnids, birds & mammals (many nocturnal)

Major issue is desertification.
